Description: The Talking Book Center is located on the second floor of the Staunton Public Library. They provide free library service for anyone unable to read regular print because of a visual or physical disability. They have books and magazines on tape as well as materials in Braille. Books and magazines are mailed free to and from library patrons, wherever they reside. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron. Currently, they serve approximately 2,000 active readers.

The MBC Community Service Directory is a WordPress Blog devoted to keeping the Mary Baldwin student community informed and updated about the many Community Partners looking for active, engaged student volunteers within the Staunton-Augusta community. It is updated and managed by the Spencer Center, located on campus, and a paper version is available at the front desk. For more information on how to use this directory, please click here.

About the Spencer Center

The Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement opened in 2007 to promote experiential learning and service, both locally and internationally. The center is where students, faculty and staff begin their community service and study or volunteer abroad experience. It is also a forum for dialogue and action on an array of pressing topics such as hunger, healthcare, sustainability, and human rights. The center is named for Dr. Samuel and Mrs. Ava Spencer, devoted friends of Mary Baldwin. Dr. Spencer served as president from 1957 to 1968 and later as a member of the Board of Trustees.The Spencer Center is a resource for all at Mary Baldwin College, and many of the center’s programs are open to the public.
